became disabled after major back surgery, 2yrs ago. was finally able to get disability, but now i have lost my food stamps. i am responsible for five children, my elderly mother who has very limited income and a brother who is blind and fighting for disability. the children are recieving medicare. i have hospital insurance through ssd, but no drug coverage. the medications i am suppose to take, including blood pressure, diabetic, pain meds and meds to prevent blood clots are over 1500 a month, needless to say i do not take any of them and am suffering worse health because of it. the disability i do recieve does not cover the bills let alone food for the kids.. my car was repossed and they are getting ready to forclose on the house, public housing is a 2 yr waiting list. I have been heating with a wood stove in the living room with wood we gather along the roads. i can not afford to use the furnace. i frequently go with out eating to make sure the kids have something, if not for the free meals at school the three youngest would not have enough to eat. now with christmas coming it it worse, no gifts for anyone. the kids have outgrown coats and shoes and i cant get them any. the only shoes i own are dollar store flip flops and with the rain and snow it is very cold getting around. thanksgiving is in a few days, there will be no feast or meat here. the only thing i have to be thankful for is that the kids are still with me. people and the government are quick to help people from other countries, but not the people from this country, it is very hard to be poor, but really degrading to not be able to qualify for basic help here. i did work full time for over 30 years as a nurse, but none of that counts. any help would be greatly appriciated. i love my kids, but i am beginning to think the only way to give my youngest three a chance at a good life again is to put them into the childrens home or foster care. the older kids are looking for jobs, but in west virginia even a job at mcdonalds has hundreds of people applying, and usually the adults get the. thank you for reading my post. jan ^ top
